Hugh Masekela

So sad to hear of the passing of Hugh Masekela. A musical legend who was music’s equivalent of Nelson Mandela. A lifelong supporter of Nelson Mandela who spent years in exile protesting against apartheid. Known as the ‘father of South African jazz’ he was a brilliant trumpeter who I was fortunate enough to see live in Johannesburg.

If you have never heard of Hugh Masekela, or listened to his music, please give it a try. It is very uplifting…………

Marshal Ferdinand Foch

Did you know? – opposite Victoria Station there is a statue of Marshal Ferdinand Foch, one of France’s most famous generals, who was made a field marshal of Britain because of his contribution to the Allied cause during the Great War.

Big Ben

Did you know? – on 17.4.13 the bells were silenced as a mark of ‘profound dignity and deep respect’ during the funeral of Margaret Thatcher.
